Euro-Nymphing Clinic
ByJo TangoHousatonic River Outfitters is hosting a clinic on Sept. 24 for Euro (or, “tightline”) nymphing. Noted angler Aaron Jasper will be leading the session. I’ve caught more fish, and bigger fish, since learning the technique two years ago. Both my personal best 22″ fish, and my volume-leading 60+ fish day, were done with that technique….
Staying Warm During Winter Fishing
ByJo TangoI fished quite a bit last winter. I go out with many layers and a ski hat. One thing with which I struggled, though, was this: how to keep my hands warm. I tried various gloves and also invested in a pair of fishing gloves where you can make them either fingerless or covered. Nothing…
Millers River Trout at Dawn
ByJo TangoOn Saturday, I awoke at 3 am to drive a few hours to fish a few hours. I needed to be back home by noon. The Millers was full of mist when I arrived. The cool air felt great. It was still pretty dark. I was the only angler. I started tightline nymphing, targeting runs…

Thankfully, a very significant low front is moving into the region, bringing with it quite a bit of rain. Rivers will surge, water temperatures will lower…

how exactly do you float the sighter? I bought modern nymphing but did you sight fish them or just cover water?
I was fishing a stretch that has held fish in the past. Honestly, I was just practicing and was surprised to get two takes, landing one. Hence, the beer after!
I'm new at the floating sighter thing, but my thinking is that it will be more effective when there are substantial bugs in the water and fish are in the shallows to feed.
