Above is a helpful video from Tightline Productions and shows a fly pattern that is easy to tie.
I’ve found that small flies with a trailing shuck and some budding wings are really effective. Sometimes just a shuck and a large thorax, such as the WD-40 fly, is enough. Sometimes, a fly that also includes a budding wing, like the one above, is the ticket. Regardless, these are go-to flies.
I tie a variety using various materials and colors. It’s fun to experiment.
And, they work well.

Good video. That fellow in the video makes it look pretty easy to tie those tiny ones, but I find it quite difficult. #20 is about my limit.
