I’ve read that it’s Hendrickson season.
So, for my next outing, I’ll be chucking some Hendrickson wet flies. I’ve read that before a hatch, there’s a lot of activity happening sub-surface, and wets are the way to go.
Below, are some flies I’ve tied up.
- #14 nymph hook
- Brown thread
- Tan squirrel for the body
- Coq de Leon for the tail
- Wood duck mallard for the wings
- For the hackle, I used a quail feather for one and brown hackle for the other two
I’m looking forward to it.

Nice! I just (last night) tied up some Hendrickson / Castskill style dry flies. Think i used #14 + #16 (I ran out of #18) dry hooks
Let us know how it goes with them? I've never fished Hendricksons before and eager to see how they do on our local waters.
Hey Troy , I just found your blog & I really like it because I fly fish. The real weird thing is I noticed you live in Stoneham. I grew up in Stoneham off of Franklin St on the Melrose Line. I got married & moved across the state to Pittsfield17 years ago
Hey DryFlyGuy! Glad you enjoy the blog! As you may have found out, I no longer live in Stoneham, or even Massachusetts. I moved to CA this year. Jo has been doing any of the great reports you have read, as I can't really report from out of state.
And Stoneham is where it's at!! Surprisingly good fishing nearby it.
