There are everyday anglers and then there are guides. There are guides and then there are those with afición, as Hemingway described in The Sun Also Rises. These are people with deep passion for something.

I would put Derrick Kirkpatrick and Zach St. Amand in that bucket. I was fortunate to take a fly-tying clinic with them and also did a half-day with Zach that totally changed how I tightlined. One technique I learned was “long lining.”

Up-close tightlining sure can work Czech-style. But even better is to fish in such a way that the trout do not know you’re there. Up above is a very dense video that is full of incredible knowledge. I hope you enjoy it.
