Abaco Relief Effort

Angler, writer, doctor and friend Brian Irwin from New Hampshire is putting together a GoFundMe for a relief effort for the Bahamas.

Fly fishing was the origin of his previous trips to the Bahamas.  What really comes through from his visits are the relationships forged with the people of the Bahamas who have become his friends.

If you aren’t familiar with Brian’s talent read his 2017 piece about Bimini Island.  In it, he details how bonefish guide Ansil Saunders passed on accounts of how Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. wrote some of his historically important speeches while on his boat. The islands of the Bahamas are a special place that has inspired many people, anglers and non-anglers alike.

At various times, fly fishing can range from being a frivolous frolic to feeling like one of the more important things I can do with my time. In this vein, fly fishing is the line leading Brian towards a mission to help his friends, guides, and those living on Abaco Island. Hurricane Dorian parked over Abaco and Grand Bahama Island, and now more than 70,000 people are homeless.  As a traveling physician, he is uniquely qualified to help.

Please read the details of his trip in October and consider making a contribution.  You can solve the problem of wondering how you can help with a few clicks and a modest donation.

Thanks, Jamie
