Getting Up to Speed on the Farmington River

I’m new to the Farmington. If you are, too, and want to get started, here are some resources I’ve found as invaluable:

  • Click here for a river report. It’s hosted by one of the best fly shops I’ve ever visited. It has the largest fly tying selection I’ve ever seen. They know their stuff and are friendly about sharing what they know.
  • Buy this guide book. It’s a very detailed write-up on the various pools and runs.

It’s a very special river, and it has been worth the time I’ve invested in it (videos of trout I’ve caught here and here). Over half the fish are wild or holdover trout, and it’s a river that is very densely packed with fish.
