I hope everyone made it through the storm OK. Honestly, it was great to sit at home guilt-free, sipping hot coffee, and watching the Patriots make it to the Super Bowl. What a season!
I had hopes to throw big streamers at deep pools this weekend, but the temps are in the way for me. I love fishing in the winter but iced guides are definitely a chore. So, I’ll tie some flies.
Craig Matthews is OG and so well-known, particularly at the stretches of Montana where I fish and where he resides. Locals say that he is the nicest guy. I hope to meet him one day.
I love how simple and effective his X-Caddis and Sparkle Dun are. They just work and are quick ties. Other than when I’m in the mood, the simpler the fly the better for me these days.
Below, please find three videos to tie those patterns and his famous Iris Caddis. Enjoy!

Yes his patterns are excellent and I especially like and fish the Iris Caddis on the Farmington.
Somewhere on the blog I ran across a micro caddis pattern. Partridge for legs and Antron over chartreuse I believe. Got a clue what I’m thinking about and where I can find it? Thanks!
On this blog? We have a search box in upper-right corner of the blog if that might help?
Have never fished that one and am excited to give it a go!
