This is a good video on different types of Euronymphing flies. Team USA member Devin Olsen talks about sink rates and how fly materials affect them. He also goes through colors, and how he thinks about designing patterns. It is a long video but worth a look.
I think the best part of the video is that it is largely unedited, and it shows him missing some fish. In some cases, fish bounce off, which is expected given that he fishes with barbless hooks.
It made me realize that we perhaps should not be too hard on ourselves when we also miss fish. When someone who competes on a global stage does not bat 1.000, how can we expect to?
