Fishy Friends

At the last minute, Alex Bagdonas and I decided to meet up and fish. As you recall, Alex was one of the early blog writers, and he lives a quick walk from me, a few blocks away. Life has been very busy for us, and while we’ve kept in touch, getting stars to align to split water has been a challenge. But we made it all work yesterday.

It was a slow day, with not much sun and a bit of rain. But we saw a decent midge hatch in the morning and robust BWO activity in the afternoon. I also saw a good amount of Caddis lay eggs, and I think I saw a single rise, which is a sign of hope after a long winter! A bite window opened when it started to rain, and we both doubled up on good browns. I eased in the net a lean hen that taped 17.5″ (big stonefly pattern), and his fish was even larger. We definitely had to work for our trout.

Other than that, I’ve been playing at the vise and just looking forward to warmer weather. (I’m posting recipes for the flies here on Instagram when I am feeling motivated.)

It is great to fish, and it’s even better to fish with friends. Best wishes for a wonderful Easter.
