Two Bits of News

I wanted to mention two things.

First, Orvis has put out a Euronymphing video that features George Daniel. When I took my clinic with George at UpCountry, he mentioned that he thereafter was going to meet up with Tom Rosenbauer and the Orvis film crew. So, I’ve been awaiting this video for a long while.

I saw it last night, and it’s outstanding. Here it is.

Second, I just learned that the Trustees of the Reservation, due to Covid-19, have closed, for the time being, the Chesterfield Gorge area of the Westfield River. It’s a long drive for many of us, and so, I wanted to let you know.

Stay safe. We will get through this lockdown, and things will yet again be amazing once we get through to the other side….

5/1/20 edit:

Blog reader, Phil, was kind enough to post a comment, which I will repeat below. If I’ve read his comment correctly, anglers cannot park at the Gorge lot, but are welcome to go down the dirt road (I recall the latter is owned by the Army Corps of Engineers). So, thank you, Phil!

Sorry for the error! Here is our river overview, complete with a map, FYI.

Just an FYI. The reservation property above the gorge has a sign stating that the reservation area is closed. But, the road to down below the reservation parking area is wide open for fly fishing. The reservation doesn’t own the fly fishing area where the fishing takes place. So, go there and enjoy yourself.

  1. That was a fantastic clinic and the conditions were tough with the high water. George is a humble master; a true gentlemen of the sport.

      1. Phil, thank you for correcting my error. Just updated the blog post to reflect your comment.

        1. No problem. You were doing the right thing letting us the fly fishing community know what was thought of a potential closure. I’m glad it wasn’t so, but we should all keep in mind that it could happen if we aren’t all careful.
          Tight-lines….Phil

  2. Great video. I am sure I will refer back to it many times as a lot of info to digest at one sitting! Thanks for sharing.

    1. Happy to try and help! George is incredibly thoughtful and modest at the same time, a rare combination!

  3. Thanks for the intel on the Chesterfield Gorge. You saved me a lot of time and trouble as was planning a trip there in a few days.

    1. Hi Bill, blog reader Phil says it is fish-able. I’ve updated the blog post with the details. Sorry for the false alarm!
