When water is a bit broken, I have good luck using dropper flies with some color. Sometimes, a fly incorporates a hot spot. Sometimes, it is a bit flashy.
As I’ve written before, I have good results year-round with the Rainbow Warrior. Inventor Lance Egan ties them down to size 20, and so, I’ve made a few test flies for my next outing.
I used the Tiemco 2488H, my favorite hook for small nymphs. It has a 3x gape for better hooking and greatly increases the ability to hook and hold onto a fish.
I have a theory that when eggs are in the water, small flies with a bit of red, pink or orange tend to do well. That happened again to me the last time I fished.
It is a very simple tie. Here is the materials list:
- Hook: Tiemco 2488H, size 20
- Tail: Coq de Leon
- Body: Krystal Flash, pearl
- Thorax: Rainbow Scud Dubbing, light shade
- Thread: UTC, 70 denier, red
