Last year, for a test, I put some fly line dressing on my old line. Wow, that line shot out when I cast it. Much more distance.
Since then, I try to remember to clean my lines and think I’ll do it about twice a year. Sometimes, it’s about the basics that just make life easier on the river.
It’s pretty easy to wash line in soapy water, dry it, and then put on some dressing.

Some saltwater guys will use stripping finger sleeves on their right hand and put a few drops of line dressing on every hour or so. Constantly adding it is expensive, but it sure as heck works! I try and dress my line once a season or so.
Wow, that hourly application of dressing is intense!
