Catching Up

I was back here in MA a few days this week, for work. But that didn’t stop me from spending a few hours at my old stomping grounds. Here the report…

I took 6 trout from the Nissitissit on Sunday. Who says this river is dead now?! Unbeknownst to most, it always makes it through the summer with some fish still left! Soft hackles and eggs did the job. Find any of the deeper spits and you will find a few trout!

I had a few hours on the Swift on Sunday, late at night. I left the river at 10:30 PM… I’m pretty sure there is a certain time you are supposed to leave (before 10:30 for sure) but I couldn’t remember so I just stayed. Head lamp helped, and I got 4 on the glow-in-the-dark San Juan Worm, and another 7 on big articulated streamers. Trying different techniques there pays off, and those fish barley ever see a streamer bigger than a size 10 woolly bugger. Mix it up!

That’s all I’ve got.  Hopefully I’ll be back in Mass sometime this winter.

  1. Troy, I could be wrong, but I believe night fishing is allowed, without restrictions, north of the Rt. 9 bridge to the Y Pool. But, there's a sign at the bridge near the Bubbler that says "no fishing after dark." So, I think you're good, for as long as you stay out of the Bubbler and the spillway?

Honestly, if I didn't have a young family, the idea of throwing a mouse fly in the dark would be pretty awesome. I'll get there…eventually….

I'd love someone with more knowledge about the exact regulations to correct me if I'm wrong.
